Student Activities

A Wide Range of Exciting Opportunities and Events

Thames Academy and Mitchell College coordinates student activities to reach and include all of our students.

Life at Thames is not all work and no play.

We know that balancing academics with extracurricular activities provides opportunities to strengthen social skills. But they’re also fun! And, there’s something for everyone.

Thames Activities

Our unique living-learning community here at Thames Academy allows us to create student activities that reflect their interest. We seek student input, then make plans based on their passions, likes and suggestions. For example, if we have avid golfers attending the program, we might spend an afternoon at the driving range. Naturalist and outdoor adventure students could go hiking for the afternoon. Sports fans might check out the Basketball Hall of Fame or attend a baseball game.

Our trips have included:
  • Science Museum in Boston
  • Duck Tours of Boston
  • Hiking
  • Bowling
  • Basketball Hall of Fame
  • Patriot’s Place
  • Apple and pumpkin picking
  • Ice skating
  • Submarine Force Library & Museum (USS Nautilus)
  • Mashantucket Pequot Museum
  • Live TV tapings at NBC Universal
  • Mystic Village and Aquarium
  • New York City
  • Roller skating.

Mitchell College Activities

Everything that Mitchell College has to offer is available to Thames students.* Thames students work out in the gym, shop in the bookstore, play pool or video games in the student center, join clubs and organizations such as the Drama Society, and take part in off-campus excursions.

The Mitchell College Student Activities Office provides a range of these trips, social events, and clubs that enhance a student’s experience on and off campus. Clubs and organizations also sponsor a variety of programs and activities.

In addition, each semester the Students Activities Office coordinates volunteer activities such as the Big Event Campus-wide Day of Service, and a variety of programs around themes including Hispanic Heritage Week, Black History Month, Women’s History Month, Wellness Week and more.

The Student Activities Office also plans special all college functions such as Orientation, Graduation Week and Fall Weekend.
